BBAN to IBAN converter
 
 
This tool coverts up to 4000 Basic Bank Account Numbers (BBAN) to International Bank Account Numbers (IBAN).

IBAN structure example

This tool also validates the format of the Basic Bank Account Numbers but does not check if the BBANs actually exists. Additional checks are applied to dutch bank account numbers, the so called eleven test.

A BBAN consists of up to 30 alphanumeric characters (A-Z, 0-9) and has a fixed length per country and includes an identification code of the bank/branch servicing the account at fixed positions within the BBAN and also the customer account number at fixed positions within the BBAN. Basic Bank Account Numbers varies greatly in individual countries but has some common characteristics. Usually it consists of 2 to 6 parts.

  1. Check 1 (1!a)
    Only few countries uses the "check 1" control digits.
    In this BBAN example the first character represents the "check 1" character:

  2. Bank id (5!a)
    The identification code of the payment service provider (the bank).
    In this BBAN example the next 5 alpha characters represents the "bank id":
    MFISH

  3. Branch id (3!n)
    The identification code of the payment service provider organisational unit (the branch).
    In this BBAN example the next 3 numeric characters represents the "branch id":
    439

  4. Check 2 (2!n)
    Only few countries uses the "check 2" control digits.
    In this BBAN example the next 2 numeric characters represents the "check 2" digits:

  5. Account number (11!n)
    The bank customer identification (the account number).

  6. Check 3 (2!c)
    Only few countries uses the "check 3" control digits.
